IGNITE: TinyML Hands-on Workshop

On January 29, 2025, the IGNITE: TinyML Hands-on Workshop was successfully conducted at Vimalagiri Public School, Ernakulam,India. Organized by Abhinav Krishna, Seeed Ranger, in collaboration with the MACE IoT Club, this workshop introduced higher secondary students to the fascinating world of TinyML (Tiny Machine Learning) and IoT. The event provided a completely offline, hands-on experience, enabling participants to build and deploy TinyML models using Seeed Studio hardware.
Workshop Highlights
The session, was designed to equip students with the fundamentals of TinyML and practical deployment strategies. Participants engaged in an immersive learning experience that covered:
–Fundamentals of TinyML and real-world applications
–Live demonstrations of TinyML projects using Seeed Studio hardware
–Hands-on implementation with the XIAO ESP32S3 Sense and Grove Vision AI V2 Module
–Exploring the SenseCraft platform for TinyML model deployment
–Building and deploying custom TinyML models on the XIAO ESP32S3 Sense

Hands-on Experience and Interactive Learning
The highlight of the event was the practical session, where students:
-Collected sample data and trained their own TinyML models
-Deployed models onto Seeed Studio hardware
-Experimented with additional components like the SenseCap Watcher and Wio Terminal

A special live demonstration showcased previous TinyML projects, including EleTect: Mitigating Human-Elephant Conflict using TinyML, demonstrating how AI can be used for wildlife conservation.

Engagement and Feedback

The workshop was attended by 26 enthusiastic students, who actively participated in discussions and hands-on sessions. The interactive Q&A allowed attendees to clarify doubts and explore the challenges of deploying ML models on constrained devices.
“The hands-on approach made learning easier and more engaging. I never imagined building an AI model on such tiny devices!” – Participant Feedback
Many students expressed interest in advanced TinyML workshops, paving the way for future sessions focusing on IoT, robotics, and real-world AI applications.
