Seeed Studio and the IoT Medellín Community Drive Technological Innovation in Collaboration with Universidad EAFIT

Medellín, Colombia – On February 21st and 22nd, Seeed Studio, in close collaboration with the IoT Medellín community and with the valuable support of Universidad EAFIT, hosted a series of practical workshops and specialized talks that marked a milestone in the region’s technological development.

Day 1: Prototyping with Computer Vision

On February 21st, The Ranger Gabriel led a hands‑on workshop focused on computer vision prototyping using the XIAO ESP32S3 Sense board. Seventeen participants (more than 25 including volunteers and organizers) explored innovative IoT applications and real‑world use cases. Attendees had the opportunity to experiment directly with Seeed Studio devices, laying the groundwork for future regional innovations.

Day 2: Emergency Response Systems and Decentralized Networks

On the morning of February 22nd, the focus shifted to emergency response systems. Around 20 participants worked with devices such as the Tracker 1000‑E for Meshtastic to implement decentralized mesh networks. The session also featured an introduction to Seeed Studio’s global Mission Pack program, which brings together professionals worldwide to develop innovative solutions for natural disasters and emergencies.

A standout demonstration showcased a practical solution for the recurring floods in Medellín. Participants designed a system using SenseCAP sensors and reComputer devices integrated with LoRaWAN modules, highlighting the potential of IoT solutions to address critical local challenges.

Specialized Talks and Networking

In the afternoon of February 22nd, regional experts delivered a series of specialized talks. Gabriel Giraldo presented an introductory session on AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things), inspiring approximately 40 attendees to work towards a more connected and digital Medellín. Topics covered included decentralized IoT networks and innovative products such as the SenseCAP Gateway. In addition, the Co‑Create program was introduced to entrepreneurs and startups.

Another memorable talk by María Hernández shared how engaging with communities has been life‑changing, reinforcing the power of collaboration within the local tech ecosystem. Both days concluded with dynamic networking sessions that further strengthened local technological bonds.

Impact and Future Vision

The event not only delivered valuable technical knowledge but also inspired participants to collaborate on building innovative solutions for both local and global challenges. The synergy between Seeed Studio, the IoT Medellín community, and Universidad EAFIT demonstrated the transformative potential of collaboration in driving technological development.
