Seth Evans, an innovative maker, along with his friend Jared Farago has developed an innovative custom brake light for all Tesla Model 3, designed to enhance safety and style with selectable lighting patterns. Using the XIAO ESP32C6, Seth has created a plug-and-play solution that transforms the standard third brake light into a captivating light show. It’s perfect for grabbing attention and adding a personalized touch to your vehicle.

How the Project Works
Seth’s custom brake light seamlessly integrates with your Tesla Model 3, offering a unique blend of functionality and flair. The magic begins when you install the custom PCB, which plugs directly into your car’s original 3rd taillight socket. Drawing power from the car’s 13.5V supply, the XIAO ESP32C6 at the heart of this system springs to life every time you apply the brakes. As soon as you step on the brake pedal, the light immediately displays your chosen pattern, catching the attention of drivers behind you with its eye-catching display. After about 6 seconds of this dazzling show, the light transitions to a solid red, ensuring it meets all safety standards for brake lights.
But the real innovation lies in its customization capabilities. If you keep your foot on the brake for 10 seconds, the XIAO enters Access Point (AP) mode, transforming your brake light into a Wi-Fi hotspot named “S3th L1ghts”. Using your phone you can connect to this network and access a user-friendly web interface. This interface, available at the IP address 192.168.4.1, allows you to choose from four different light patterns and adjust their speed to your liking. Once you’ve made your selection, the XIAO saves your preferences, ensuring that your chosen pattern will play every time you hit the brakes. This clever system combines safety with personalization, allowing you to express your style even when you’re slowing down.
