Green TechMaker Live Mentoring Session
Last June, I conducted an online mentoring session for 10 startup participants at the Green Techmaker event. The next phase of the event involved participants developing their own solutions on-site at Fab Lab Bali in Jimbaran Hub, Bali, Indonesia. I was invited once again to be a mentor for the on-site event, which took place from July 13th to July 15th.
So here is the recap of my mentoring Session at the event.
July 13th 2024
My flight from Jakarta was scheduled at 07:05 AM, and I arrived in Bali at 10:10 AM. Once arrive I want to do this one mandatory photo for the SenseCAP Watcher
A driver is already standing by to take me to the event venue at Jimbaran Hub. After arriving and introducing myself to the participants I directly helped a few participants facing technical issues with their projects.
On this day I am helping 5 Startup with their Idea:
- Biops. Their Idea is to make a bird repellent device using a laser beam. One of their need is the device can detect a bird using tinyml and automatically turn on the laser beam. I help Biops to make a custom data model for the Grove Vision AI V2 and interface it with a XIAO ESP32S3
- Venambak. Their Idea is to make a mobile aerator. But their challenge is they want to monitor the aerator devices. I explained about Lora with sensecap to them and they will consider to implement it in the near future.
- Lokatani. The Idea of lokatani is they want to manage and monitor their existing hydroponic system. They already have the Grove Wio E5 on their hand but don’t have a gateway to test their application and device. Fortunately I bring my SenseCAP M2 multiplatform gateway for the event and guided lokatani using the packet forwarder feature from the gateway.
- Komodo water. The device that they want to build is an IoT-based water quality sensors aimed to measure and monitor important parameters such as temperature, dissolved oxygen levels, and pH in water to shift from manual monitoring operation. The person in charge of the device is facing difficulty to send the IoT Data to web dashboard, I helped him to use the Blynk platform and the Grove PH Sensor
- Olat Maras. The startup already have an existing device which is a solar based cooler box but for this event they want to monitor the power usage of the devices. The person in charge at the event already have strong background in electronic but haven’t try arduino yet, So I help him to setup and code on an arduino environment using the XIAO ESP32C3

On 2nd Day I there were still some participants who needed help to finalize their projects.
- Komodo Water facing some difficulties with the PH sensor not reading correctly, so I guide him to use the correct library while also stitching the codes for all the sensors used for his projects
- Byops are having an issue with Grove Vision AI module v2 interfacing with the XIAO ESP32S3 sense. The Xiao couldn’t read the I2C data from the Grove Vision AI module, I suggest changing to XIAO ESP32S3 Sense with XIAO SAMD21 that are available at the fablab Bali.
- Lokatani wants to know about the mqtt feature on the Chirpstack from the SenseCAP M2 Multiplatform. So I explain a little about it and let him borrow my gateway for one day to test it
July 15th 2024
For this day the participants are given a chance to test their project at Kopernik’s office in Ubud Bali. I joined them to Kopernik office while also still helping a few participants that still facing some issues. Komodo Water still facing some issues in sending the data to the Blynk platform, in the end, they chose to display the sensor data on 20×4 i2c LCD display.
Since this was also my last day for the event I said good bye to the committee and other participants and wished them a success on demo day the day after.
I want to say I huge thank you to Seeed Studio for choosing me for the event, FabLab Bali (Maddy, Tafia, Elaine, Eka) , and Kopernik (Aria and Ryan) For the invitation at the live mentoring session and handle my needs while I’m in Bali.
