Why "Planet vs Plastics"
Plastics have become ubiquitous in our daily lives, but their persistent presence in the environment has devastating consequences for ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Single-use plastics, in particular, contribute to landfill waste, litter our natural spaces, and harm wildlife and marine life. Furthermore, the production of plastics is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to climate change.
To attain a 60% decrease by 2040, EARTHDAY.ORG aims to:
- Raise broad public awareness about the detrimental impact of plastic on human, animal, and ecological health, while advocating for increased research into its health ramifications and the transparent dissemination of findings;
- Swiftly eliminate all disposable plastics by 2030, with an objective to formalize this elimination commitment in the United Nations Treaty on Plastic Pollution by 2024;
