Important Update: End of Life Announcement for Seeed IoT Button For AWS

Dear Seeed Studio customers, we’re sharing important news about the Seeed IoT Button For AWS(102991334). This Wi-Fi-enabled button, designed for easy integration with the AWS IoT 1-Click service, has played a significant role in simplifying IoT solutions. However, due to the discontinuation of the AWS IoT 1-Click service on 12/15/2024, impacting the button’s ability to connect seamlessly with cloud services. This marks the beginning of its End of Life (EOL).

FAQs

  • When does AWS plan to externally announce AWS IoT 1-Click deprecation?
    • December 15, 2023
  • What happens to the buttons that were purchased by customers but not yet claimed?
    • Existing AWS IoT 1-Click customers can continue to claim buttons in their accounts and use the service until December 15, 2024. Past this date, all support will cease to exist.
    • The customers that have not yet claimed any AWS IoT 1-Click buttons, will not be able to claim buttons after the announcement on December 15, 2023.
  • What happens to my AWS IoT 1-Click projects and buttons after the end of life (EOL) date?
    • After May 15, 2024, you will no longer be able to access AWS IoT 1-Click service from the AWS Management Console.
    • After December 15, 2024, calls to AWS IoT 1-Click APIs will cease to work. AWS IoT 1-Click buttons will not trigger the associated actions in AWS Lambda functions. AWS IoT 1-Click resources will be deleted. In lieu of using AWS IoT 1-Click, you can build an alternate solution with AWS IoT Core.   • Can I claim new AWS IoT 1-Click buttons before the end of life date?
    • Existing AWS IoT 1-Click customers can continue to claim buttons in your account and use the service until December 15, 2024. Past this date, all support will cease to exist. We strongly recommend you to transition to alternate solutions that do not depend on AWS IoT 1-Click service.
    • If you are not an existing AWS IoT 1-Click customer, after December 15, 2023, you cannot claim buttons in your account.
  • How can I claim buttons and manage projects after AWS IoT 1-Click console’s end of life?
    • After May 15, 2024, you will no longer be able to access AWS IoT 1-Click service from the AWS Management Console. Existing AWS IoT 1-Click customers can claim AWS IoT 1-Click buttons and manage their projects from AWS CLI until December 15, 2024. For more information on the CLI usage, refer to developer guide.
  • Can I claim my AWS IoT 1-Click buttons after the end of life date?
    • No. After December 15, 2024, AWS IoT 1-Click customers will not be able to use the service, including the ability to claim new IoT buttons.
  • Will my AWS IoT 1-Click buttons work after the end of life date?
    • No. You may continue to see a green light on the button, which only represents Wi-Fi or Cellular connectivity link status of the button. However, IoT buttons will not trigger the associated actions in AWS Lambda.
  • Will I be billed for my remaining AWS IoT 1-Click buttons after the end of life date?
    • You will be billed only for the enabled buttons until December 15, 2024 per AWS IoT 1-Click pricing. After December 15, 2024, there will be no billing for AWS IoT 1-Click service.
  • Can I migrate my resources before the end of life date?
    • AWS IoT 1-Click buttons are configured to connect to AWS IoT 1-Click service. It is not possible to migrate the resources. In lieu of using AWS IoT 1-Click, you can build an alternate solution with AWS IoT Core.   • How do I delete my AWS IoT 1-Click resources?
    • To delete the resources used by AWS IoT 1-Click, please refer to developer guide here.

  1. Can you advise the basics of how I can re-program the button with my own firmware? Is it standard hardware – ie: Ardiuno etc – can you provide a link/document explaining?
