All YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GSR SENSOR(GALVANIC SKIN RESPONSE)-GUIDES AND PROJECTS
What is GSR (Galvanic Skin Response) or EDA (Electrodermal Activity)
GSR (Galvanic skin response) or EDA (Electrodermal Activity) refers to changes in human sweat gland activity, which can reflect the intensity of human emotional changes as known as emotional arousal
How GSR or EDA works
The principle is that when the human body is stimulated by the outside world or the emotional state changes, the activity of the nervous system will cause the relaxation and contraction of blood vessels in the skin and the secretion of sweat glands. At this time, the GSR sensor is required to capture this information.
About Grove GSR sensor
Product Details:
Grove GSR sensor allows you to spot such strong emotions by simply attaching two electrodes to two fingers on one hand, an interesting gear to create emotion-related projects, like a sleep quality monitor. In some galvanic skin response devices such as lie detectors, this scientific principle is also applied.
Features:
- Detects conductance of the skin
- Finger Straps for electrodes
Platforms Supported:
- Arduino
- Raspberry Pie
Something you should know about :
GSR (Galvanic Skin Response)is not only used to monitor your emotional arousal, in psychology, you can also use the data from the GSR sensor to analyze to determine whether he is lying or not. In fact, the GSR sensor has been widely used in our life, especially in some medical facilities, psychology, polygraph, etc.
Community Projects
Mouse Fatigue Estimation by GSR and EMG Values w/ TensorFlow
The author Kutluhan Aktar shared his work on Hackster. The reason for this project is that he feels precipitous pain from his forearm due to using the mouse for a long time about six hours, so he wanted to try to use the GSR (Galvanic Skin Response) and EMG (Electromyography) to predict his muscle soreness levels.
In his project article, he shows all the hardware that he needs for the GSR project
Seeed Studio Grove – GSR sensor
Seeed Studio Grove – EMG Detector
Seeed Studio Grove – Universal 4 Pin Cable
SD Card
3D Printer
20000 mAh 3 Pro Type-C Power Bank
And Kutluhan Aktar shows the software apps and online services in his GSR/EDA project article too including the coding part.
In his project article, he explains all the steps including assembling parts and programming GSR (Galvanic Skin Response) and EMG (Electromyography), you can find more information at the link below:

Bee: The Ultimate Medical Solution
In this GSR/ EDA project, Raunak Singh builds a healthcare solution cuz. Before the COVID-19 Pandemic, the importance of healthcare was already well-noted, in the hospital with so many sicknesses or patients who need attention, in a short period maybe like 5 minutes, can be the difference between life and death, and the nurse has to go to each patient’s room and must do the simple measurement that a computer could do when she could be saving more time by helping patients. And that’s the purp
His article also shows all the Hardware that used in this GSR project like
Microchip Technology AVR-IoT WA Development Board
LiPo Battery 3.7v
MikroE Heart Rate 8 click
And This is the concept map of his GSR project
