Introducing the Dual Gigabit Ethernet Carrier Board for Raspberry Pi CM4
In October 2020, the Raspberry Pi Foundation released their newest and most powerful compute module, the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4. In this article, the team at Seeed is proud to present the Dual Gigabit Ethernet Carrier Board for the newest Raspberry Pi compute module. Let’s begin!
What is the Compute Module 4?
For our friends who are unfamiliar, the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 is essentially a modularised Raspberry Pi 4 in a compact form factor for deeply embedded applications. This smaller yet equally powerful version of the most popular single board computer is highly flexible and convenient for building custom applications.
The Compute Module 4 is the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s most powerful compute module yet, featuring a quad-core ARM Cortex-A72 processor, dual video output, and a wide selection of other interfaces.

Compute Module 4 Carrier Boards
The Compute Module 4 has no I/O except two high-speed, high-density 100-pin mezzanine connectors. Make no mistake, however, for it is these two connectors that make the compute module the flexible workhorse that it is.
Through the mezzanine connectors, the Compute Module 4 is designed to fit snugly on an accompanying carrier board that will offer the I/O peripherals needed. The carrier boards can then be conveniently redesigned for each custom purpose without having to tangle with the intricacies of engineering the System on Module (SoM).
Introducing the Dual Gigabit Ethernet Carrier Board For CM4!
The Dual Gigabit Ethernet Carrier Board for the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 was designed with soft router applications in mind, featuring dual Gigabit Ethernet ports and dual USB 3.0 ports.
In addition, it also features a rich set of I/O peripherals such as MIPI CSI, MIPI DSI and micro-HDMI for display and camera connectivity, a standard 9-pin USB 3.0 for further USB expansion, microSD card slot and FPC connector.
Despite this, the Dual Gigabit Ethernet Carrier Board maintains a small form factor of 75 by 64 by 21 mm – that’s one third the size of the official I/O Board!
Dual Gigabit Ethernet CM4 Carrier Board Features
- Compact size (75x64x21mm) with rich I/O peripherals
- Dual Gigabit Ethernet connectors for soft router applications
- Camera/ display connectivity using MIPI CSI, MIPI DSI and micro-HDMI interfaces
- Onboard dual USB 3.0 with an additional USB 3.0 9-pin header for more external ports
- Micro-SD Card slot to load system image for non-eMMC version of CM4
- More Expandability via FPC Connector (I2C, SPI)
- External fan support with fan power connector
- Power over USB Type-C
In addition, we offer a Mini Router based on Dual Gigabit Ethernet NICs CM4 Carrier Board. It comes in a PC/ABS case with an aluminum alloy top and a large sink to cool the CM4 under extreme loads. It also provides better protection and is suitable for industrial applications.
Who is this CM4 Carrier Board For?
In general, this board is ideal for HTPC makers, Linux developers and software router enthusiasts, but any Raspberry Pi user looking for a powerful, convenient and compact I/O solution for their compute module will be sure to benefit from this product.
With dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, the Dual Gigabit Ethernet Carrier Board allows you to easily develop powerful networking applications powered by the high-speed connectivity of the Raspberry Pi CM4. Some examples include building a home router for personal use, a high-speed NAS (Network Attached Storage), or an IoT gateway that can manage large amounts of traffic.
Regardless of the end goal, we are confident that the carrier board will become a key platform that enables makers who are pursuing IoT, smart home, camera projects, and more!
