Raspberry Pi Pico, the first microcontroller released by Raspberry Pi Foundation, based on the new RP2040 MCU.

Raspberry Pi has just released Raspberry Pi Pico at $4, the first microcontroller board based on the Raspberry Pi’s new RP2040 microcontroller chip. Steps after Compute Module 4 and Raspberry Pi 400 that released at the end of 2020, Raspberry Pi Foundation has brought us their first surprise in 2021.

Now you can pre-order Raspberry Pi Pico at Seeed online store.

Raspberry Pi Pico is the first product using Raspberry Pi’s own MCU, the RP2040. The chip features dual-core ARM Cortex-M0+ at up to 133MHz with a RAM of 256KB, 2MB flash memory, and 264K multi-bank high-performance SRAM. Designed to be a flexible, low-power, and cost-effective development platform, Raspberry Pi Pico offers on-chip PLL for variable core frequency and access to the 30 GPIO pins.

Raspberry Pi Pico is the first microcontroller using Raspberry Pi’s own MCU, the RP2040, which designed to be a cost-effective and flexible microcontroller and development platform for RP2040, featuring:

  • Powerful RP2040 chip: Dual-core ARM Cortex-M0+ at up to 133MHz with a RAM of 256KB, 2MB flash memory, and 264K multi-bank high-performance SRAM
  • Low-power and cost-effective design: On-chip PLL for variable core frequency supports low-power sleep and hibernation modes
  • 1mm thin PCB: 40 pins in 21×51 ‘DIP’ stye and 0.1″ through-hole pins with edge castellations
  • Support C/C++, Micropython with comprehensive SDK, software examples, and documentation offered by Raspberry Pi Foundation
  • Rich hardware interface: 2x UART, 2x I2C, 2x SPI, up to 16 PWM channels, 1x Timer with 4 alarms, 1x Real-Time Counter, and Dual Programmable IO (PIO) peripherals

The board also offers different options for powering, able to power through micro-USB, external supplies, or batteries

The multifunctional castellated hole allows to easily soldering

The Pico features a multifunctional castellated hole/pad design, allowing headers to be soldered onto the pads as commonly seen on development boards, or the entire board can be treated as a surface-mountable module. The modules are provided in a tape and reel format to further support SMT assembly.

Pico has been designed to use either soldered 0.1″ pin-headers as a surface mountable ‘module’. Multifunctional castellated hole allows to easily soldering. SMT pads underneath the USB connector and BOOTSEL button allow these signals to be accessed if used as a reflow- soldered SMT module.

Easily to get started

Raspberry Pi Pico is equipped with a MicroPython port, comprehensive SDK, detailed documentation, and easy installation. Pico is well suited for both beginners and developers with help of various applications including machine learning, smart homes, wearables, and robotics.

Please find the official getting started guide on the Raspberry Pi website at Getting Started with Raspberry Pi Pico.
