Happy Spring Festival
Hey dear friends, how time flies, here comes the Chinese New Year (also known as Spring Festival) of 2014. We wish you a happy new year abundant with happiness, good health and great success!
As usual, all Seeed staff will be on vacation to celebrate the festival with families and friends. The holiday will last from January 26th to February 4th. Seeed online shop is open to welcome your visit as always, however we won’t be able to process the order until February 5th when we come back to work. If you want your orders to be shipped before the vacation, please make sure to place the order before Jan 25th (Beijing Time, UTC+8). Sincerely apology for all the inconveniences. We would like to seize this opportunity to express our gratitude for all our dear customers, distributors, partners etc., and many others who have been supporting us and giving us suggestions, advices and all sorts of help in the past years.
In 2013, Seeed provided many new products to the community: Xadow series is extremely suitable for space-sensitive projects such as wearable devices & arts designs, which have higher request on size, weight and flexible cascade connection. Arch series are the mbed enabled development boards which combine the advantages of mbed SDK and Arduino formfactors. We also keep expanding Grove system and Shields, coming up with new products such as Grove – MOSFET, Grove-GSR, and Wifi Bee v2.0 etc.
We’ve also been taking advantages of the local resources to provide a lot of accessories and tools at an economic way. Categorized as Shenzhen 2 U, these products include LPC1114FN28 – ARM Cortex-M0 based 32-bit MCU (DIP), Dragino V2 MS14-S with M32 IoT Module, PhoenixA20 – First ARM A7 Pico-ITX board and some displays, soldering tools etc. Shenzhen is known as the Hollywood of Makers. However, it’s not easy for visitors to find the related factories in Shenzhen. As a must-go place to visitors, Huaqiangbei is like a huge maze to many; so we release the Map for Makers (Free to download the PDF version) based on our last five years experience and in the hope of helping you fully experience Shenzhen in a very short time.
We have also provided many new services, such as 3D printing, laser cutting, Open Parts Library, etc. Seeed has cooperated with many makers to bring their projects into the market, such as Crazyflie, OpenSprinkler, Gameduino 2, Espruino, Blinky Tape, and Brickpi Adcanced etc. We’ve also cooperated with Sparkfun to make Big Time Kit accessible to Chinese makers.
The year 2013 witnessed the rapid growth of makers in China. Not only more people know about makers and join the maker community, lots of big companies also seek cooperation and breakthroughs in the wave of maker movement. We’ve received visits from many many Chinese big companies and have been reported by lots of media. We hope to help spread maker spirit and further push forward the movement in China. Sincerely invite you to innovate with China, and we are looking forward to innovating with the world!
We’ve always valued the importance of the community and seized the chances of communication. We attended Open Hardware Summit 2013, Sketching in Hardware 2013, Maker Faire in Bay Area, Rome and Tokyo. Apart from being an attendee & an exhibitor, we’ve also tried our best to organize some events to have a closer contact with makers to learn more requests and suggestions. We held meetups in Noisebridge & Ace Monster Toys hackerspaces with our products and gifts in July 2013. Special thanks to Mitch Altman, Rolf Widenfelt and David Rorex for helping us to make these happened.
As an open hardware facilitator, we also keep pushing maker movement forward like organized Shenzhen Mini Maker Faire in April 2013. Also, thanks to the support from Makezine, we managed to make Shenzhen the 7th city in the world to host a Featured Maker Faire! The time for Maker Faire Shenzhen is April 6 & 7, 2014. We are looking forward to meeting you here in the “Hollywood for Makers”.
