Seeed Wiznet Shield issue
Issue: Potential problem for Seeed Wiznet Shield power supply
Root cause: Mistakenly used AMS1117-5 instead of AMS1117-3.3 during production
Coincidence: The design was to use AMS1117-3.3 to provide 3.3V from 5V, but AMS1117-5 is mistakenly used. The 5V input does not meet requirement from AMS1117-5, it coincidently output around 3.4V and made the whole board working fine and passed our validation and test.
Severity: mild. The boards are all tested and proven working, only 2 out of 300 are reported faulty and are not confirmed AMS1117-5 issue. However, there is possibility that the board might fail or working unstable in certain applications.
Follow up: We will extend all wiznet shield warranty to 3 years including free change. If you are feeling uncomfortable in continue using the board, please send a mail including your order number and address to wiznetissue{at}seeedstudio.com for:
1) Send back the board with mistaken IC for replacement
2) Ask for a replacement AMS1117-3.3 if you are OK with the soldering
