Description

LinkIt Smart 7688 is an open development board based on OpenWrt Linux distribution and MT7688. The board is designed especially to enable the prototyping of Rich IoT Applications for Smart Homes. The board offers you memory and packet storage to enable robust video processing. The MPU supports the OpenWrt Linux distribution, it processes an application’s intensive logic tasks and provides Wi-Fi connectivity. It supports Python, Node.js and C programming languages. The MCU handles real-time peripheral control as well as offers the ability to run Arduino sketches. It comes with 802.11n WiFi for setting up Web applications and has rich GPIO outputs, which are perfect for embedding into all kinds of smart home projects.

LinkIt Smart 7688 is a co-design product by Seeed Studio and MediaTek. It brings together the parties' knowledge of open hardware and industry leading reference designs for IoT devices to create this powerful development board.

LinkIt Smart 7688 provides USB host capability that enables it to connect to various USB devices such as webcams, USB drives, keyboards, joysticks and more. The connector is a USB micro-AB type.

LinkIt Smart 7688 are two types of antenna supported one is the default antenna built-in Wi-Fi chip antenna, and the other is I-PEX connector for external antenna(To enable the I-PEX connector, you’ll need to remove the resistor R233 located on the top left corner of the I-PEX connector).

The Linklt Smart 7688 development platform offers two developments boards:

  • Linklt Smart 7688: MPU only. Powered by Media Tek MT7688.

  • Linklt Smart 7688 Duo: MPU and MCU. Powered by Media Tek MT7688 and ATmega 32U4.

LinkIt Smart 7688 is fully supported on the MediaTek Labs site: check out the LinkIt section and register here to download the SDK, participate in the Forums, and more.

Worth the price The product is very good. You get a Linux board with USB, wifi, RAM, Flash and a uSD socket plus IO pins for $13.

On the downside: it doesn't have ADC (that's maybe the only thing that prevents this board from being a major success). And couldn't get it to connect as wifi client just yet (didn't work that part out of the box so I'll have to figure it out with a serial console; can't debug that over the wifi for obvious reasons). Also, I upgraded it and some part of the WEB UI got broken. Will try again with another board (bought 5).
